Partner study description
In Burkina Faso, Jean-Bosco Ouedraogo and his colleagues worked with the MalariaGEN team to collect samples from three urban clinics in Bobo-Dioulasso – Colsama, Ouezzin-ville and Sakaby – each up to 8km from the laboratory at the Institut de Recherche en Sciences de la Santé. These samples helped form the cornerstone of MalariaGEN’s initial efforts to characterise global Plasmodium genome variation, and contributed to the development of field and lab-based sample handling methods, sequencing approaches, and data analysis pipelines. Jean-Bosco and team are keen to investigate signatures of population structure and other unique features of genome variation between the three locations where samples were collected.
