We’re delighted to announce the dates for the 8th conference on Genomic Epidemiology of Malaria are Monday 7th – Wednesday 9th June 2021. For the first time the conference will be held virtually and free to all participants.
More affectionately known as GEM, this annual gathering provides a common forum for malaria scientists and clinicians working at the interface of genome science and technology, epidemiology, and statistical and population genetics. We hope that by making GEM 2021 free to participants the conference will be accessible to more people from more countries than ever before. And like previous years, as well as great science, we will create opportunities for networking and fun with colleagues from around the world.
The Scientific Organising Committee of Caroline Buckee, Deus Ishengoma, Mara Lawniczak, and Dan Neafsey have the crucial role of setting the Agenda for the meeting. The programme focuses on transmission models and migration patterns, genomic surveillance and the implications for policies to eradicate malaria, and explorations of resistance to malaria drugs and insecticides. It also provides a forum to discuss biological insights in malaria genetics, barriers to translation, and bioinformatics tools for 21st century.
